Year End Survey December 10, 2025
The Demond Pond Watershed Association is pleased to share that 2025 was a very successful year for the health of Demond Pond. (See report below)
Throughout the spring and summer, the Association worked closely with aquatic management professionals to monitor water quality and control invasive aquatic plants, particularly fanwort and variable milfoil. These invasive species, if left unmanaged, can spread quickly, harm native plants, reduce water quality, and interfere with swimming, boating, fishing, and wildlife habitat.
Multiple surveys were conducted from May through September to track plant growth and water conditions
Targeted treatments were carefully timed and applied to areas with the highest invasive plant concentrations
Water quality was monitored throughout the season, including oxygen levels and water clarity
All work was performed in coordination with regulatory agencies and followed required safety protocols
By the end of the season, the results were clear:
Fanwort was nearly eliminated
Variable milfoil was significantly reduced and limited to small, isolated areas
Water clarity and oxygen levels remained excellent
Native plants continued to thrive, supporting a healthy pond ecosystem
Overall, Demond Pond showed marked improvement compared to the beginning of the season, confirming that the management strategy used in 2025 was both effective and environmentally responsible.
Invasive aquatic plants do not disappear permanently on their own. Even after a successful year like 2025, ongoing monitoring and early treatment are essential to prevent regrowth and protect the progress that has been made.
The recommended plan for 2026 includes:
Early-season surveys in the spring
Focused attention on areas where invasive plants have appeared in the past
Timely treatment if needed, before invasives have a chance to spread
Staying proactive is far more effective — and less costly — than waiting until problems become severe.
The success achieved in 2025 was made possible through the financial support of Association members and the community. Continued funding is critical to:
Maintain regular monitoring
Respond quickly if invasive plants return
Preserve water quality and recreational use
Protect property values and the long-term health of the pond
Every contribution helps ensure that Demond Pond remains a clean, healthy, and enjoyable resource for all.
If you value the improvements you’ve seen this year and want to help build on that success, please consider continuing or increasing your financial support of the Demond Pond Watershed Association.
Together, we can protect Demond Pond — not just for next season, but for years to come.
